Hello,my bucket list friends! Since it’s August 18th ,I figured now would be a good time to announce my book club pick for August. Without anymore delay let’s get to it!

I had a hard time choosing this month’s book. I had one in mind but when I started reading it, I didn’t know if it would be a good fit  for the book club. I actually ended up choosing a book that I got at the Goodwill on Saturday. The book is part of the whatever after series. The title of the book is Dream On and it’s written by Sarah Mlynowski. I’ve already started reading this book and I can’t wait to discuss it later this month! It’s a fun adventure story that I think is perfect for the Light Heart book club!

Light Heart book club July 2020 discussion

Hello, my bucket list friends! I know I’m behind on my book club posts but I’m ready to catch up. July’s Light Heart book club pick was Melanie’s Last Ride by Joanna Campbell and Alice Leonhardt. As always one more thing before we dive into the discussion. The following post contains major plot points ( Spoilers ) for the book . If you want to read the book and haven’t yet, I suggest you wait to read this post until you have finished the book. Now, let’s dive into our discussion.

Light Heart book club July 2020 discussion

My favorite part of the book – My overall favorite moment in this book is when Melanie’s father shows up at camp and surprises her. Throughout the book Melanie is upset that her father’s work schedule often prevents them from spending time together. I was so happy for Melanie when her dad surprised her!

My least favorite part of the book – The part of the book I liked the least was when a fire threatened the horses! Lucky Melanie and the other campers were able to get them to safety.

Overall view of the book – One thing I really liked about this book was that it took place at a summer camp. It was fun reading a book that was set in the same season that it was in real life. Another one of my favorite parts was when the campers went swimming and there was a rope swing that you could use to jump into the water. This is actually an item on my bucket list! This book gave me memories of being at summer camp and I really liked that. One thing about the book that I didn’t like so much is that there was a good amount of drama happening but that’s how kids are at that age. If you like horses I would recommend this book just remember it is full of age appropriate drama!

Activities

Art activity – For this book’s art project I knew just what to make. I had gotten this arts and crafts kit at Goodwill awhile ago where you make paper plate animal faces. Since a horse was one of the animals that you could make with this kit. I knew it would be perfect to make for this book’s art project. It was a quick and easy project to make. I was happy with the was this project turned out.  If you are not able to find a kit like the one that I used it’s pretty easy to make this project on your own. You can use a regular paper plate and cut out your own shapes.

Question – This next activity is a little different but I has fun with it. Did you ever notice how race horses have really long and sometimes funny sounding names? When I was probably around 12 years old I used to play this horse racing video game. I remember thinking about how silly some of the horse’s names were. For this activity I asked myself if I had a race horse what would I name it ? I think I came up with the perfect name for a race horse and that name is Sunshine City Coffee ! It’s long and funny but also cute! I would love to see your answer to this question in the comment section.

Happy reading !

Light Heart book club July 2020

Hello,my bucket list friends! I’ve been out of town for awhile but now it’s time to catch up with blogging.  Without anymore delay it’s time to announce this month’s book club pick.

Light Heart book club July 2020

This’s month’s book is going to be Melanie’s Last Ride by Joanna Campbell and Alice Leonhardt.  This book is number #29 in Thoroughbred series. I had never heard of this series before but when I saw this book at the Goodwill it looked interesting so I chose it as this month’s book. Horses are one of my favorite animals and I enjoyed watching the Saddle Club TV show when I was younger. I hope I really like this series because I’m always looking for new books to get into. As an added bonus there is a character named Christina!

Light Heart Book club April 2020

Hello, my bucket list friends and welcome to the first official light Heart book club discussion !  ( You can learn more about the book club HERE )  This month’s book is an American Girl book titled Lanie by Jane Kurtz . I really enjoyed reading this book and I came up with a few questions to help us discuss this book. Feel free to answer the questions in the comments! One more thing before we get into our discussion, The following contains major plot points ( Spoilers ) in the book . If you want to read the book and haven’t yet, I suggest you wait to read this post until you have finished the book.  Now, let’s dive into our discussion.

Who in the book did I relate to the most ? This book is full of some great characters but the main charter Lanie is who I related to the most. Lanie has a passion for nature and all things outdoors. Her best friend Dakota also shares this passion with her but during the book Dakota is off on her own adventure on the other side of the world. Lanie’s family  has what she refers to as inside genes meaning they do not love the great outdoors the way she does. I could relate to Lanie’s frustration as she struggled to share her passion with others.  I think at one time or another most people have been disappointed when their excitement about a topic they are passionate isn’t shared by the others around them. I loved how Lanie did her own camp out in her yard. Sometimes you have to explore your passions on your own. This part of the book was a good reminder of that.

What was my favorite moment in the book ? I loved the part of the book when Lanie took her pet rabbit Lu Lu out for a walk. It was funny to hear about her neighbors reactions to seeing her walk her rabbit down the street.

what was my least favorite moment in the book ? – My least favorite moment in the book was when Lannie’s aunt left unexpectedly overnight due to a last minute job offer. Lanie was very excited when she found out that her nature loving aunt was coming to stay with them. Lanie and her aunt both have what Lanie calls outside genes. Lanie loved having her aunt around they even started planting a garden together. I could feel Lanie’s disappointment when she woke up and discovered that her aunt had left.

What did I think for the book overall – I really enjoyed reading this fun and light hearted book! Another one of my favorite parts was at the end of the book when Lanie and her younger sister Emily went bird watching. Throughout the book Emily had shown some interest in the outdoors but she struggled with a fear of bugs. I loved reading about their outdoor adventure together.

Actives to go with the book

The art activity I chose to go with this book was painting a garden rock. It’s a very simple art project . All you need is some paint and a rock. I used an art kit that I got from the Dollar Tree . The rock that came in the kit had the shape of a carrot outlined onto it.I had fun painting the rock and adding some glitter that came with the kit onto the carrot. I think Lanie would love to have a rock like this in her garden.

Another fun activity that you can do with this book is an outdoor scavenger hunt. You can find plenty of scavenger hunt lists online or you can come up with your own.

Recommended reading – There is another book about Lanie called Lanie’s real adventures I’ve already started reading it. If you enjoyed Lanie’s first book I recommend taking a look at her second book.

There you have it the first discussion in the light heart book club ! I’m so excited to chose the next book and discuss it with all of you ! Rock On – Christina Epperly

4 Boxes of ponies !

Hello, my bucket list friends since my last blog post was a little on the heavy and emotional side I thought it would be a good idea to write something fun and light-hearted . This year I have won four boxes of my little pony toys from Ebay . I did talk about the first box I got in a blog post earlier this year. I also posted about the boxes on my social media accounts I have also posted 3 unboxing videos  on youtube so far but I will be posting the fourth one soon . Anyways hold on tight as I tell you about how much fun it has been opening four boxes of ponies !

4 boxes of ponies

As some of you may know I’m a big fan of my little pony . I Love collecting the toys and other merchandise as well as watching the show . Back in January I decided to start bidding on my little pony lots on Ebay. I found that there is a Goodwill that puts together lots of ponies and puts them up for auction on Ebay . I love shopping at the Goodwill and I have found some good my little pony stuff there so I started bidding on some of the my little pony lots that they had on Ebay . I won my first box in January and so far I have won 4 boxes . Some of the boxes are over 9 pounds ! That is a lot of ponies ! Now my room is filled with more ponies than ever before . Before I got the Ebay boxes I mainly had pony toys that were from the current generation of my little pony also known as G4  but now I have a lot of G3  and G3.5 ponies and they are pretty cool . With the fourth box I was able to get all  of the power ponies ! The boxes also had some Equestria girls girls dolls  I got lots of Twilight sparkle dolls and a Sunset shimmer doll along with many others . I also got what I call the snow globe style ponies they are clear pony toys filed with water and glitter shapes . I did not have any snow globe style ponies  before I got the boxes . One of my favorites box find is a pinkie pie toy that blows bubbles . I’ve had a lot of fun opening up the boxes. I also enjoy looking at all the new ponies that I have around my room . Getting four boxes of ponies is making my year just a little more fun !
